NOVEMBER - NO EVENT

Because of the jam-packed nature of BIM in November with Autodesk University and Thanksgiving taking up two out of the four weeks, there will be no PDUG in November. We look forward to seeing you the first week of December for our year-end blowout event with our partners from the Philadelphia Women in Architecture and Philadelphia Emerging Architects at the AIA!

DECEMBER 5 - THORNTON TOMASSETTI'S ELCIN ERTUGRUL

THORNTON TOMASETTI'S CORE STUDIO PRESENTS AN ARRAY OF INTEGRATED DESIGN APPLICATIONS!

Please join Women In Architecture (WIA), Philadelphia Emerging Architects (PEA), and Philadelphia Dynamo User Group (PDUG) for our end-of-the-year event featuring Elcin Ertugrul, a senior applications developer at Thornton Tomasetti's CORE studio.

Elcin will present recent application developments that enhanced the communications between stakeholders in order to make informed decisions even very early in the design stages. The CORE studio is Thornton Tomasetti's virtual incubator of ideas. The studio conducts research, develops custom software applications, design workflows to optimize project realization, and develops interactive computational models. CORE studio provides a valuable interface among design and construction teams, developing new workflows and processes to promote collaboration and enable advanced building design.

OCTOBER 17 - SCOTT MITCHELL, HACKING THE HOWICK

Join us for a special Wednesday edition of Dynamo User Group, as we chat with Scott Mitchell, an expert in Dynamo, digital fabrication, and embedded system development.

The Howick machine at the Autodesk BUILD Space in Boston is a CNC steel-stud roll-forming machine, which allows for rapid fabrication of custom steel studs. By developing a stud-designing plugin for Dynamo, and utilizing some of Dynamo's new and upcoming features, Autodesk's AEC Generative Design Research Team has explored design to fabrication workflows for making complex steel structures really, really fast. Scott Mitchell, a software engineer on Autodesk’s Dynamo team, will tell the story of "Hacking the Howick" and will talk about the future of making things with Dynamo.

Come to learn a little and meet fellow Dynamo users. Feel free to bring your own laptop (with Revit and Dynamo installed) along with your Dynamo hopes and dreams. No prior experience in writing code or Dynamo is necessary.

Thanks to this month’s sponsor, Microsol Resources, this session will be worth 1 AIA Continuing Education Learning Unit.

Sign up at the Eventbrite or the RSVP link above.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the high security nature of the EwingCole office location, attendees must register by midnight the day before the event and arrive no later than 6:15pm to gain entrance. Please enter the building using the N 7th Street entrance between Arch and Race Street (across the street from the African American Museum).

Come to learn a little, meet fellow Dynamo users, and enjoy the dinner sponsored by IMAGINiT Technologies, and their software for BIM management, Clarity. Feel free to bring your own laptop (with Revit and Dynamo 2.0 installed) along with your Dynamo hopes and dreams. No prior experience in writing code or Dynamo is necessary.

June 5 - Kyle Martin

June's meeting will be the last one before PDUG takes a break to enjoy the summer. Don't miss it - we have Kyle Martin coming! Kyle Martin is the leader of Boston's Dynamo-litia, and a part of the leadership for the BeyondAEC Hackathon and the Design Tech Throwdown, in addition to being a faculty member at Boston Architectural College.

BIMpasse: Dynamo as the means for design actualization within Revit

Questions are commonly raised about Dynamo approaches for establishing design geometry as the basis for Revit documentation. This presentation will challenge the traditional understanding of digital design modeling and propose a requisite shift of strategy to produce better results. Various methods for instantiating Revit geometry will be provided, including advantages and disadvantages of each. A particular emphasis will be placed on how early stage considerations for parametric modeling help pave the way for improved software interoperability, and ultimately facilitate a more simultaneous and seamless design and delivery process.

Come to learn a little, meet fellow Dynamo users, and enjoy the dinner provided by Microdesk. Feel free to bring your own laptop (with Revit and Dynamo installed) along with your Dynamo hopes and dreams. No prior experience in writing code or Dynamo is necessary.

December 12 - Joint Event with Philly's WIA

Wish you could normalize the use of Dynamo (and other visual scripting languages) in your office? Curious about how the Dynamo sausage gets made?

The Dynamo User Group is partnering this month with Philadelphia AIA's Women in Architecture to provide two fantastic speakers on computational design: Lilli Smith and Racel Williams. Lilli will be talking about how computing is being made more accessible in the design community and how design computation can be leveraged to solve problems within design workflows (including a sneak peak at what we can expect our design tools to do in the near future). Racel will be providing us with a view into the near (and far) future of Dynamo as the program transitions into version 2.0, and how that update will enable designers to tackle new types of problems.

This month's event is hosted at the Center for Architecture and Design in partnership with the Philadelphia Women In Architecture group. Cocktails and dinner will be provided by the PDUG sponsor, Microdesk. Feel free to bring your own laptop (with Revit and Dynamo installed) along with your Dynamo hopes and dreams. No prior experience in writing code or Dynamo is necessary.
